India’s maritime infrastructure sector is entering a multi-year growth cycle, and Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works Ltd. (KMEW)<\/strong> appears to be positioning itself at the centre of this structural opportunity. Backed by a record order book, strong profitability, rapid fleet expansion, and a strategic diversification into shipbuilding, the company delivered another year of robust operational and financial performance in FY25.<\/p>\n

The company reported consolidated revenue of \u20b9200.7 crore<\/strong>, reflecting 23% year-on-year growth<\/strong>, while maintaining an impressive EBITDA margin of 41.6%<\/strong>\u2014one of the strongest among listed infrastructure and marine engineering companies. Management described FY25 as a transformational year, marking the company’s evolution from a marine services contractor into a diversified maritime infrastructure platform.<\/p>\n

KMEW’s business now spans multiple segments, including marine engineering, dredging, harbour management, marine logistics, inland waterways, port operations, vessel ownership, and shipbuilding. This integrated business model is expected to strengthen execution capabilities while creating multiple avenues for long-term growth.<\/p>\n

The broader industry backdrop remains highly supportive. Government initiatives such as Sagarmala<\/strong>, Maritime India Vision 2030<\/strong>, and the Green Tug Transition Programme<\/strong> are expected to drive significant investments in ports, coastal logistics, inland waterways, and shipbuilding over the coming decade. To support future growth, KMEW significantly accelerated capital expenditure during the year. The company expanded its owned fleet from 16 vessels to 40 vessels<\/strong> and increased Capital Work-in-Progress to over \u20b9101 crore<\/strong>, reflecting investments in new marine assets and vessel construction. Management also announced plans to enter the large 5,000 cubic metre Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger<\/strong> segment, a market currently dominated by international players.<\/p>\n

From FY26 onwards, KMEW will transition to the Tonnage Tax Regime<\/strong>, a move that management expects will reduce tax outflows by more than 90%<\/strong>. The resulting improvement in cash flows could support additional investments in fleet expansion, technology upgrades, and international growth initiatives.<\/p>\n

Corporate governance also remains a key strength. The board comprises 50% independent directors<\/strong>, supported by active audit and governance committees. Promoter commitment was further demonstrated through personal guarantees for company borrowings and fixed-deposit collateral provided without personal consideration, reinforcing alignment with minority shareholders. Additionally, statutory auditors issued an unmodified audit opinion<\/strong>, with no adverse observations reported during the year.<\/p>\n

While investors should continue monitoring execution risks associated with rapid expansion, fuel price volatility, labour costs, and competitive bidding, the company’s diversified business model and healthy order pipeline provide a strong foundation for sustained growth.<\/p>\n
